Beattie, Carol Ann, 63, of Dartmouth NS passed away on August 26, 2023 at the Victoria General Hospital, Halifax.
Born in Liverpool, Carol was the daughter of W. Forbes and Elizabeth (Williams) Kennedy.
After obtaining a degree in Health Studies from Waterloo University, Carol moved to Yellowknife NT where she met her husband, Freddie. They were married in Inuvik NT in 1984. Ever looking for adventure, Carol and Freddie moved to Atlanta, Georgia where Carol attended Emory University and obtained a degree as an Ophthalmic Technologist/Orthoptist.
Her career took her and Freddie to Buffalo, Hawaii, and ultimately home to Nova Scotia where she worked for over 20 years at the VG Eye Care Centre.
Carol was the quiet one of the family but always observing what was going on. The family story is that Carol didn’t start talking until she was 3 years old and when she did, she spoke in full sentences. The reason given was that her older siblings were always eager to fill in the words for her.
Over the years Carol explored many interests and activities including the bagpipes, curling, lawn bowling, golf, bridge, and gardening. She was generous with the bounty from her garden, especially the garlic.
Carol is survived by her husband of 39 years, Freddie, sisters Karen (Charles) McGee of Liverpool and Heather (Dean) Clarke of Vernon BC, and brothers Bill (Linda) Kennedy of Vernon BC and Steven Kennedy of Nelson BC and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Carol was predeceased by her sister, Kathy and nephews, Adam, and Joshua.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool, NS. At Carol’s request, there will be no funeral service. Donations may be made to Elder Dogs Canada, Feed Nova Scotia, or a charity of your choice. Online condolences may be made to www.chandlersfuneral.com.
We will miss your quiet humour and insightful observations of people and events. When you see a murmuration think “Carol would have liked that”.
Thank you to the Nova Scotia Health Palliative Care team and the nurses and doctors at the Palliative Care unit at the VG Hospital for their care of Carol these past months.
Offer Condolence for the family of Beattie; Carol Ann

Carol was the best of Blue. (The eye peeps from the clinic will know what I mean) She was so skilled, such a great teacher. And she saw everything. She knew if a colleague was stuck in the OCT room or a patient in the waiting area needed help and was the first to respond. And her wicked sense of humour. She was so quiet but you knew when you saw the twinkle in her eyes that she had new material and you were about to laugh. I’m thankful for our walks, our texts, our brunches and phone calls. Hugs to Freddie and her family. Godspeed, Carol. You will be greatly missed.

Dear Freddie and Family,
We are very sorry to hear of Carols’ passing but at the same time we are confident of her presence with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ Who has taken away all of her pain and suffering and now her joy is being fulfilled with Him. Even though it is very grievous at the time, Carols’ testimony stands true through her faith which God chose to bestow upon her. on behalf of the Dartmouth Lawn Bowls Club, we would like to offer our sincere condolences. Carol was a lovely lady and was well liked at the club. She was an excellent bowler. We tried many times to get her more involved in competitive bowling but she always said “when I retire”. Sadly, that didn’t happen. Needless to say, we were shocked to hear the news of her passing and will miss her smiling face very much.

Freddie,
It’s been too long. It sucks that this is the reason to be talking though. I reminisce often about the adventures my parents took us kids on (I can remember the laughter after rolling off the top bunk to fall on you on purpose, probably not the brightest idea looking back now) and all the amazing people I got to meet that they called friends along the way. It may be a short list but the names on it are what counts. Miss you and thinking of you.
Love,
Dan
