Dear Ruby, Pauline, Spencer, Jeanette and Families, I am sorry for your loss. Vera was always so kind to me as a kid even though she had a large family of her own to care for she was so nice to all us kids that were the friends of her children. I remember her letting us bake cookies and didn’t seem to care that we were making more work then cookies for her. She always had time to talk to us and teach us things, just so kind. I spend a lot of nights as you all know at your house and your Mom and Dad treated me like one of their own. I think of those times with a smile on my face. I always thought I was one of her favorites 🙂 want you all to know that you are in my thoughts and Prayers.

We were saddened to hear that Vera has left this world. Vera was one of Mom’s (Lucy Tompkins) oldest and dearest friends, and our family also felt close to her. She always showed us great kindness and hospitality when we visited Nova Scotia. Her sense of humour was innate and she could always make me (Judy) laugh. I especially remember a visit of several years ago when I stayed with her and we had many a great laugh and cribbage game (when she generally clobbered me). Whist games were an event, also–more about the camaraderie than the cards themselves. She was a comfort to me, then, as it had only been months since Mom’s passing. We talked about our memories of Mom and I believe she may have eavesdropped at times! I am so glad that when we were in Nova Scotia this past summer Brian and I had an opportunity to visit her, however briefly, as we were staying nearby. She was as bright as ever, but mourning the loss of her sister, dear Elizabeth. If there is any consolation, it is heartening to know that she has joined so many dear ones in the next world. And I am sure they are having the best of reunions! Our condolences to the whole family of dear Vera. Judy, Brian, Heather and Kira

My deepest condolences to the Bagley family. Vera was a dear friend to my mother, Hazel Fisher, and they communicated daily up until Vera moved to Hillside and then Mom passed away last Sept. Every time I was in NS, Mom and I would visit Vera at her at her home, and then at Hillside. We always took card games and board games with us as Vera just enjoyed our visits and games so much. I last saw Vera just before my mother passed, and I was looking forward to visiting her in Feb when I go to NS. I will miss my visits with Vera. She was such a dear soul. I’m sure she and Hazel have reunited and are enjoying their card games and board games in heaven now.

Today we will say good bye to a wonderful lady. Vera was one of the best neighbors anyone could have asked for. She certainly had a special place in our hearts. She was there to celebrate the good times and cry with us through the bad. She watched my boys grow into fine young men and had the pleasure of watching our granddaughter grow the past four years. She always looked forward to “Hailey” visits. Where do we begin when it comes to her treats….lol. Oh how she loved her forbidden treats. And let’s not forget how she loved Pauls chowder and clams. If we had either one of those meals for supper, so did Vera and if she had a craving for either one, Paul got the hint. We had the pleasure of making so many memories with this wonderful lady over the years. Thank you to Vera’s family for sharing their mom and grandmother and welcoming us as her extended family, we certainly will miss her. Hugs to all!
