Adams, John Andrew – age 86, Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, died on Saturday, June 19, 2021, in Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Hospital, Halifax, surrounded by love, released from suffering, and finally at peace.

John is survived by his wife, Judith (Judy) of fifty-seven years; daughter Jennifer Walters, sons Jeffrey (Sylvia) Adams, and Joel (Jolyne) Adams, grandchildren Arianna and Noah, brothers Gerry (Joyce) Adams, and Don (Carolyn) Adams, and several nieces and nephews.

He is also survived by son Stephen Conrad, and daughter Susan Tyas from a former marriage, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

John was predeceased by his parents, James and Eleanor (Reichrath) Adams, and sister Joyce Agostinonie.

Born in Verdun, Quebec, John served in the Royal Canadian Navy as a Leading Seaman Bosun 2, after which he was honourably discharged. Professional woodworking became his career, and his custom built furniture, unique pieces, and hand carved gold leaf signs, borne of a natural talent, can be found in homes and businesses across the globe.

A hard working and loving husband and father, gifted musician, and master craftsman, John lived life to the fullest, always willing to help anyone in need, and always with genuine kindness. He touched countless lives with his story telling, humour, and wisdom, often lifting the spirits of a troubled soul who needed kind words and encouragement.

Boating was also one of John’s passions. Once a member of the Armdale Yacht Club, he loved adventures at sea with family and friends. An avid reader, his knowledge was far reaching. He loved crossword puzzles, and spending time in his vast workshop creating beautiful pieces.

John’s legacy is his music, and he lived and breathed its universal language until his final moment on earth. Tumbleweed gained notoriety as they traveled Nova Scotia, performing their unique catalogue of songs that brought joy to everyone. Audiences enjoyed John’s charisma, humour, and boundless energy as he showcased his amazing talent on guitar, and his sweet vocal harmonies.

The family wishes to express gratitude to Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Hospital staff for their devotion to John, a man they described as “very kind.”

A private service will be held on Thursday, June 24, 2021, at 2:00 p.m., from Chandler’s Funeral Home in Liverpool. Private interment to follow at Peaceful Hill Cemetery in Port Mouton. In John’s memory, donations may be made to the Port Mouton United Baptist Church. Online condolences may be made to www.chandlersfuneral.com

Condolence from Bonnie Keefe on June 22nd, 2021 1:15 pm

My deepest condolences to you all on John’s passing
I got to know John and Judy over the last few years when they came into our local bookstore in Bridgewater, I loved seeing them come in to visit us.
John always was very kind and I found him to have a twinkle in his eye, I remember he and Judy coming into the store after I think it was 50th wedding anniversary showing off the beautiful watch that Judy had given him and the lovely ring he gave her to celebrate the occasion, I remember thinking how very lucky they were for finding each other that they truly loved each other.
Judy any time you need a hug drop in and see me ok, and if they is anything I can do don’t hesitate ok
Bonnie (Coles books)

I’m so sorry to be seeing this. We went full circle from fellow Port Moutoner, Sunday School teacher, youth group leader, bus driver to my across the hall neighbour most recently. John always had time for the youth in his community. He was a tremendous guitar player and his love of Boney M was evident. I was glad to be able to share my experience at the Boney M Christmas concert in 2019, he was happy I saw them in person. I have had one of his beautiful wooden cutting boards on my counter since I received it as a gift in 1989. I think about him every time I use it. Please accept my sincere condolences and may he rest in eternal peace.

Condolence from Lynn Kempton-Lowe on June 22nd, 2021 5:59 pm

Dear Judy and family,
I am so sorry to hear that John has passed away. Larry and I always enjoyed the friendship that we shared with you and John. I can’t remember if we met through Eric and Mary, or if it was through the Christian Men’s Fellowship, but either way, your friendship has been a blessing for many years now.
After sharing so many years with the same person, it’s sometimes difficult to imagine life without them, but take comfort in knowing that John is finally with his Saviour and Lord, whom he loved to share with others through his gift of music and through his own personal testimony. The trials and tribulations of this old Earth are in the past now, for John, and he will never have to experience any of that again.
We know we will see our loved ones again, when we share that same faith and love for our Saviour, but until then, treasure the many memories of your years together and the when you look at your children, remember that God blessed your marriage to John with the gift of a family. Hold all of this close to your heart and know that my love and prayers are with you.
With love and understanding,
Lynn xoxo

Dear Judy and Family:
I am so sad to read of John’s passing, and I couldn’t believe that he was 86 years old!! What a nice long life he had, and what wonderful memories you all must hang onto! He was a gifted musician, and I remember dropping by at your home in Port Mouton for a visit and there was a whole band there! John had a way of making a person feel special, and I will certainly miss that. As we get older, it seems that there are fewer people that think we are special, so I may as well tell you now, Judy, that you and John were always special to me, and you still are! Love to you all at this sad time, Emily

Condolence from Carl Goodwin on June 24th, 2021 9:31 am

Dear Judy, Jennifer, Joel and extended family. My deepest sympathies in the loss of John. John, Judy and kids were our (Norma) first cruising companions at the Armdale Yacht Club in Halifax. We ventured to Herring Cove on a Labor Day week-end 51 years ago – they aboard “Glooscap” and we on “Skip Jack”. We were joined later by the Curries aboard “Tralee”. John, Les and Roger formed a music group called the Armdale Trio and we danced and sang to their music many nights at the Club where they performed regularly. John, Judy and family later moved to Port Mouton where they started new lives as a family in Judy’s “hometown” and where the craftsman in John shone and he formalized his musical talents. Rest In Peace old friend. – Carl

His seemingly limitless energy has always been an inspiration.
I will sorely miss his warm and generous nature. My heartfelt sympathies to you, Judy, and to John’s entire family.
