ACKER – James “Jamie” Arthur, 62, passed away on January 30, 2023.
Jamie was born and grew up in Caledonia, Queens County; the son of the late Wilfred “Mervyn” Acker and Shirley Elizabeth (McLean) Acker.
Jamie has always been as fun-loving as he could be serious. He valued, and had, wonderful people enriching his life all the time which made the hard times easier. His interests were many and his curiosity infinite. Jamie’s creativity was inspired by anything and everything. He was somehow always able to spot shiny objects in a ditch while driving by it. Jamie will forever live in the hearts of his friends and family, especially for his mom Shirley, sister Julianne Acker-Verney and brother-in-law Tim Verney.
As per Jamie’s instructions, there will be no funeral service. All who know him are encouraged to think of him the next time you see something shiny out of the corner of your eye. Imagine, as he always has, all that can be created with something shiny, a little bit of time, and a bunch of other stuff you picked up along the way. Sigh, a definite shooting star from the past. I was stunned to her the news from Dougie Mailman. I haven’t seen nor heard from Jamie for years. Still, news of his passing was a reminder of my days in Caledonia, his quiet Dad Mervyn, his always laughing and loving mom, Shirley and his kid sister – Julie. Thinking of you all, condolences, Steven Gaetz

So sorry to hear of Jamie’s passing as my thoughts are with you Shirley, Julie and Tim too. Remember him when I was growing up and visiting Aunt Audrey and Unc’ Arthur…and Auntie’s bean dinners, ha. So too that big ’59 mercury turnpike, piling the kids in the back seat to return to Caladonia and have it in my diecast collection as a memory. Will remember him always.
