I was very saddened to hear about Louise’s passing. She was my grade 2 teacher at Milton School back in 1972. I was new to Milton and that was my first year at Milton School. I knew no one, had no friends and it was a very uncomfortable time, but she made it so much easier. I will never forget how kind and sweet she was to me, being the new kid in the school. She was a very special lady. I would like to extend my deepest condolences to Jamie, Mark and their families at the sad time.

Mrs. Thorburne was a wonderful teacher. She was encouraging and kind. I am very sad for all the Thorburne family and wish I could ease your loss. I remember learning math in Grade 2 and she asked us students to bring in things to count with. I took 2 stubby cases full of beer bottle caps and was so proud that all my family had saved me all the caps to count with. She never flinched when I got off the bus with 2 boxes full of beer caps and let me be happy with my math counters…I was proud I had the most counters in the class… mostly Schooner! Can you imagine that today…. She accepted all of her students without judgement, encouraed them & helped us all learn.

“Once children learn how to learn, nothing is going to narrow their mind. The essence of teaching is to make learning contagious, to have one idea spark another.” — Marva Collins

Thank You Mrs. Thorburne, you inspired a child with that contagious spark.

Jamie / Mark / Family:

I am so sorry to hear about Louises passing. She was a wonderful lady whom I had the honour of knowing and working with for her last year in Milton school. Later on in our paths we attended the same church and when Vince passed, I was asked to sing by her sing at his funeral…another honouring occassion.

As I was unable to attend visitation and celebration of life due to being away, please know that you were all in my thoughts and prayers all weekend. I was thinking about Louise a lot this weekend and just remembering the wonderful memories that are instilled in me about her.

May you trust in God throughout this time.

Bless your family,

Mike

Condolence from Brad MacLeod on July 8th, 2013 12:30 pm

Jamie,
So sorry to hear of your mom’s passing. She was a great teacher although it must have sucked for you to have her as a teacher and then go home and have her as a mom. You couldn’t get away with anything! lol
Hope you have a chance to think of the good times and have a smile and laugh with Mark as you remember her.
Brad MacLeod
