Myers;

MYERS – Constance L., 64, of Mersey Point, Queens County, passed away peacefully in Queens General Hospital, Liverpool with her family by her side.

Born July 8, 1950 in Woodstock, NB, she was a daughter of the late Harrison and Nina (Cook) Monteith.

Connie graduated from the Victoria Public Hospital, Fredericton in 1971 as an R.N. She worked alongside her soon to be husband Dr. Ross Myers in his office until 1976 when they were married. She then moved on to the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton where she worked in various units including the DVA Unit until 2006 when she retired. Connie was a very dedicated, compassionate and hardworking RN and set an example for many nursing students. She and her husband Ross moved from Mactaquac, NB to Mersey Point where they fulfilled their life long dream of building a home on the ocean. Everlasting friendships were quickly made and she was grateful and loved her large circle of friends who helped and encouraged her during her recurrent battle with metastatic breast cancer. Although a breast cancer survivor for twelve years, it had returned and Connie spent the last two and three quarter years courageously fighting with regular chemotherapy treatments. She especially enjoyed the Touch Therapy and Reiki sessions with Karen, Suzanne and Jeannie as well as the support of other friends who provided meals and comforting words during her difficult times. Connie took great pride in her family especially her children and grandchildren and will be lovingly remembered as always worrying about them and not herself. She will be greatly missed by her family and by all who knew her including her buddy “Manning” who enjoyed their daily walks at Beach Meadows Beach.

Connie is survived by her loving husband of 38 years, Ross, her daughter Lindsay (Jason) Glenn of Douglas Harbour, NB, her son David (Sarah) of Black Point, NS., her grandchildren Gillian and Garrett Glenn and Molly and Everly Myers, her sisters Margaret (David) Lockwood of Burton, NB, Geri (Chris) Kilburn of Fredericton, NB, Irene (Robert) Campbell of Barrie, ON, Jeannine (Ralph) Helsley, Bangor, ME, her brothers Allison (Beverly) of Keswick, NB, Hugh (Brenda) of Halifax, Richard (Judy) of Hanwell, NB, Victor (Carol Ann) of Moncton, NB.

She was predeceased by her sister Pauline Belyea and brother Roger.

Visitation will be Thursday, October 16, 2014 from 7 until 9 p.m., with prayers being at 8:00 p.m., in Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. Reverend Dr. Steve Hopper officiating. A memorial service will be held Thursday, October 23, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in Grace Memorial Baptist Church, Fredericton, NB. Family flowers only, donations may be made to the Queens S.P.C.A., the Victorian Order of Nurses, Queens Branch, the Queens General Hospital Foundation or to a charity of your choice. Online condolences may be made to www.chandlersfuneral.com

Condolence from Doug Cottrell on October 14th, 2014 2:43 pm

Ross, Lindsay and Dave. Marian, Sean and myself are saddened by Connie’s passing. She’ll always be remembered by her involvement in each of your lives, the unselfish commitment and support to whatever each of you had planned and were doing, be it ringing the cow bell at FHS and UNB basketball games, standing in the cold waiting for Ross to parade by and making sure all of you were taken care of before turning off the lights at night. I’ll miss her smile, sense of humour and her pumpkin and rhubarb pies! She was the only one that appreciated my sense of humour and I could rely on a laugh and a “oh, you fool!” Yes, she will be missed…..

Condolence from Ray Hill on October 15th, 2014 6:06 pm

Ross Myers and Family:

Mary and I have few words to express how deeply sorry we were to read of Connie’s passing.

She was such a beautiful, and wonderful person. When She and I were taking radiation, we always spoke to each other, and for months following such experiences, we always tried to remain in contact, for progress reports, until our calls dwindled down, probably because her illness progressed beyond control.

We both went through similar experiences, although with prayers, I was fortunate to go in remission, and now have two years under my belt so to speak.

Each day that Connie and I survived was a blessing, but not so lucky for her, as she was taken by this dreadful disease.

Our prayers and thoughts are with you Ross, your family and your extended family members. With deepest sympathy and condolences, we are:

Connie’s strong spirit and willingness to do whatever it took to fight the good fight is evident by her battle the last few years with her health. I am sure in part to spend as much time as possible with her beautiful grandchildren. Even though you didn’t get to spend as many years as you wanted together in your “dream home” it looks like from the pictures in the memorial video you have created wonderful moments in that “little piece of heaven”. Even though our paths haven’t crossed in a while because of the ,miles between us, our memories will always shorten that distance…..love and prayers to all of you.

It is with a heavy heart we extend our condolences. There are so many memories from the warm welcome to Fredericton in your home soon after we arrived so many years ago to watching the kids grow up and yes all those basketball games…….! Connie was central to all of those memories. We hope that the stories and memories being shared by so many will provide you with some comfort during this difficult time and beyond.

Dear Ross, our condolences surround you at this time. I think it speaks highly of the connection that Connie and you shared with so many communities that I was contacted by family associated with the Mersey band and colleagues of the various RCMP divisional Pipe & Drum bands and Canadian Forces pipe bands across Canada to advise me of your loss. On behalf of Shelley, please accept our sympathies. Take care,

Yours in piping,

Condolence from Linda Hubbard on October 21st, 2014 7:13 pm

Ross & Family,
I was sorry to read about Connie’s death. I know from our friend, Sadie Cameron, she’s had a valiant and courageous struggle. You might remember me from a few years ago as an overnight visitor with Sadie, and Barb St. Laurent, on our way to a cycling weekend in Yarmouth. We stayed in your rental house; the frame of your new house was up but it was nowhere near finished. Even so, it was quite impressive, along with the view. You had started your perennial garden, which we discussed, as at that time I had a retirement job at Green Village Garden Centre. I will always remember and be grateful to you and
Connie for your hospitality. I know you were both looking forward to some lively ceilidhs in what was to be your huge open area space on the main floor. Please pass on my condolences to your family.
Sincerely, Linda Hubbard
