Lawson, Ron
LAWSON, Ronald, M., 56, of Summerville Centre, Queens County, passed away suddenly Wednesday, January 20th, 2010 in Queens General Hospital, Liverpool.
Born in Liverpool, he was a son of Amy (Hupman) Lawson of Summerville Centre and the late Murray Lawson.
Ron grew up in Summerville Centre and attended Port Mouton School and Liverpool Regional High School. At an early age, Ron knew his passion was fire fighting and working in the woods. Following his graduation from L.R.H.S., he worked with a survey crew in New Brunswick prior to attending the Maritime Forest Ranger School in New Brunswick where he graduated in 1974. After his graduation, he started work with the Department of Natural Resources in Nova Scotia. In the Spring of ‘75, he formed the Junior Forest Warden Organization. Ron was employed with the Department of Natural Resources for thirty years retiring in 2004 as supervisor for Lunenburg and Queens Counties. In 2006, he was presented with the Neil Wilcox Forest Fire Service Award for outstanding contribution to Forest Fire Management in Nova Scotia.
In his spare time, Ron was a member of the Liverpool Baseball club and treasurer of bingo and a fund raiser for the Danny Seaman field. He was president of the Mersey Athletic Association and was a former minor hockey coach. He served as president for the Hunt’s Point Association as well as a trustee for Port Mouton School and Liverpool Junior High School and played in the band “Sandy Road”. Following his retirement, Ron did property management. He will be fondly remembered as a true family man but equally as much for the saying “Keep off the Grass!”
Surviving besides his mother are his wife Betty Jean (Fox); daughter Kelly (Curtis) Croft of Ottawa, son Ryan (Kass) of Edmonton. Grandchildren Chloe and Wyatt Croft. Sister Laura (Steve) Dobson of Dartmouth. Brothers Raymond (Janelle) of Prince Rupert, BC and Daniel of Port Hope, ON.
He was predeceased by his niece Amy Dobson.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool where a funeral service will be held Monday, January 25th, 2010 at 11:00 a.m.. Reverend Jennifer Garbin officiating. Burial will be at a later date. No flowers by request. We are in shock…we were just talking to Ron earlier in the week. This is a great loss to so many in Queens. Our sincerest condolences to Ron’s family and his many friends
Extremely sad to have heard the news about Ron. . I worked with Ron over the years at Natural Resources during which we hatched many plans on things to do and changes to make, not sure we did any of them but had fun anyways. Always found Ron to have the time for a heart to heart talk or a laugh, depending upon what was needed.
Please accept my deepest sympathies on your loss.
Amy, Betty Jean , Laura and family – we were so very sorry to hear about Ron’s passing. He and I were in high school together and while I knew Laura better, I have very fond memories of him from those days. From the many messages written here, he was obviously well loved and respected. We hope that the memories of Ron that you share with your family and friends will help you through this difficult time.
Sandi and Steve Corbin

Betty Jean and family, So sorry to hear about your loss. Ron was one of a kind. I loved to torment him and Robert on Thursday nights (bingo night). I will miss his stories about the kids, his younger years and how he is the man. I will really miss his visits at my work just to remind me of what day it is. His shoes are going to be very hard to fill. Take Care
Also let Amy know she is being thought of as well.
Dear Amy, Betty Jean and family:
My sincere sympathy goes out to you at this difficult time. May you cherrish the wonderful memories that you all shared and keep them in your hearts forever. Ronnie was a wonderful man that I had the honor to know and who, with his life, showed generousity, kindness and most of all… his sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by the community with his volunteer work and plain ol’ lending-a-hand to anyone even if he didn’t know them. He was that kind of person that if he could help….he’d be there.
God Bless you and may the Lord give you strength through this time of need.
Sincerly saddened,
Mike Ozon

So sorry to hear of Ron’s sudden passing. We could always depend on him to be there when we needed him..opening and closing the cottage and to say welcome shortly after we arrived. He will be deeply missed. Our condolences to you and the children.
Thinking of you.
What a shock it was when I learned of Ron’s sudden and far too soon passing. He gave so much in so many ways to his family, friends, work and to his community, and Ron still had so much to give.
“Only the good die young” and that couldn’t be truer in Ron’s instance.
My thoughts and prayers go out to Betty-Jean and family at this difficult time. May you find strength and comfort in your friends, and in each other.

I am so sorry for your loss- Ron was a great guy- I remember he was always trying to keep Danny on the straight and narrow back in high school- it used to make Dan nuts! Eventually, I’m sure he realized it was because Ron loved him, but at the time… We laugh now- age makes the memories sweeter and funnier! Ron was a truly “nice” man- and there are only a few of those left- he will be sorely missed!
Debbie (Verge) Godfrey
So very sorry for your loss …. Ron will always be remebered for his great sense of humor, ability to converse with anyone regardless of age or gender and always having time to enjoy a cup of tea. He touched the hearts of many and will be missed.
I think back on my years in Summerville very fondly, and he was a big part of them. I will never forget him and Steve strumming their guitars and singing “I’ll fly away”.

Betty Jean, Ryan and Kelly. Valerie and I are so very saddened to hear of your sudden loss. I know at this time with Rons passing, it is so hard to find words comforting. Ronnie was a very dedicated worker with DNR and I can say it was my pleasure working with him at the Milton office. I can remember well the confident feeling I had knowing no matter what the task Ron was assigned to complete it would be done with compentence. He spoke often about family indicating his dedication and love for you all.
Our prayers are with you and your family.
Betty Jean, Amy and family – I am so very, very sorry for your loss. Ron has helped me and my family so much over the years. He was a kind, generous man and will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dear Lawson family:
We are so sorry for your loss. Ron was our property manager at our house in Central Port Mouton and we considered him a friend. When he came by to see us in the summer months a grin would always cross my face because I never knew what he would say during that visit that would make me laugh. He was a kind man, was always there for us, and had a tremendous sense of humour. We will miss him.
