Mary “Mildred” Ferguson

FERGUSON – Mary “Mildred”, 83 of Hillside Pines, Bridgewater, formerly of Milton, Queens County, passed away peacefully at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater on January 5, 2012.

                            Born in Brooklyn, Queens Co, she was the elder daughter of the late Frederick and Mary Mildred “Basheba” (Snow) Flemming.

Mildred was a long time member of Milton Christian Church, Disciples of Christ where she served as assistant treasurer and was active in the Christian Womens’ Fellowship.  In her earlier years, she was a youth leader for both 4H and Brownies. She enjoyed sewing, and crafts, particularly ceramics. For many years, she and her husband, Bob were avid square dancers, forming many strong friendships. They frequently travelled across the province, as well as Europe, for square dances. Mildred loved to go for “spur of the moment” drives where she and Bob would stop along the way at their favourite restaurants or to visit friends. The light of her life was her beloved grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband and best friend of 54 years, Robert (Bob); daughters Janice (James) Harvie of Bridgewater, Paula (Paul) Yarn of Dartmouth; her treasured grandchildren: Mallory  (Nathan England), Nathan, Shannon, and Liam Harvie, and Callyn (Jeremy Whalen), Christopher, Colin, and Camden Yarn; brother Robert (Joan) Flemming of Great Hill; sister in law Audree ( Jason) Ferguson of Halifax. She had special fondness for her niece, Alexis (John) Millar of Ottawa and her 2nd cousin, Kenneth Wile of South Brookfield.

She was predeceased by her sister Dorothy Mae Hirtle.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandler’s Funeral Home, Liverpool. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 14, at 3.00PM at Milton Christian Church, Disciples of Christ. Reverend Angus R. MacDonald officiating. Reception to follow.  Burial will be at a later date. Family flowers only, donations may be made to Milton Christian Church, Disciples of Christ. The family would like to thank the staff of the 4th floor for their kind and compassionate care during Mom’s hospitalization, particularly Tina, Jill, and Dr. Mada Nestel.
