ACKER – Jean A., The death of Jean Alice Acker occurred after a brief illness at the Sussex Health Center, Sussex NB on May 26th, 2011.
Jean was born in North Brookfield on March 3rd, 1927, a daughter of the late Percy and Lillian (Weagle) Trimper.
Jean served for many years the community of Caledonia where she lived and blessed all whom she came in contact with.
She will be sadly missed by her children: sons Robert (Mary) Acker of Montreal, PQ, Claude (Debby) Acker of Norton, NB. Daughter Ruby (Howard) Fraser of Prince George, BC. Her brother Vernon (Dorothy) Trimper of North Brookfield and her sister Dorothy “Dolly” Lutz of Windsor Junction. She also leaves behind 8 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her loving husband LeRoy “Ellot” and a granddaughter Robin Fraser.
Visitation will be Tuesday, May 31st, 2011 from 3 until 5 p.m. and 6 until 8 p.m. in Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 1st, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in Caledonia United Baptist Church, Caledonia. Reverend John Boddy officiating. Burial will be in Harmony Cemetery. Wells; Francis Edward “Kit”

WELLS – Francis E. “Kit”, 85, of Liverpool, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, May 23rd, 2011 with his family by his side.
Born in Liverpool, he was a son of the late Joseph and Lillian (MacLeod) Wells.
Kit served with the Royal Canadian Army Corps during World War II. Following the war, he worked for Bowater Mersey Paper Company Limited and retired as a papermaker after 44 years. He enjoyed sports and played on the Liverpool Larrupers in 1941. He is also in the Nova Scotia Sports Hall of Fame for curling. He was a member of Mersey Branch #38, Royal Canadian Legion, Liverpool for 65 years. Kit will be fondly remembered as a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his daughters: Peggy Beaton and Janet Grezaud (Ron Keating), both of Liverpool. His grandchildren Danny Beaton of Elmsdale, Brian Grezaud, Ashley Grezaud and Jo-Anna Nickerson, all of Liverpool and great grandson Sawyer of Elmsdale. His sister Dorothy Height of Cole Harbour.
He was predeceased by his wife Katherine Louise (MacDonald), daughter Jo-Anna, son Brian. His sisters Lottie, Evelyn and Gail and brothers Arthur and Walter.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. MacLeod; Kingsford Beverly

MacLeod, Kingsford Beverly, 73, of Liverpool, passed away Saturday, May 21st, 2011, at home.

Born in Liverpool, he was a son of the late Perry and Addie (Crouse) MacLeod.

King was employed for many years by the Department of Lands and Forrest as a firefighter, parks and recreation construction worker and park maintenance worker, where he worked up until his retirement. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time with his friends at his camp in Beech Hill. He was avid CB radio operator and was well known to the CB community by his handle of Mr. MacLeod.

He is survived by his loving wife, Wilma; daughters Joanne, of Liverpool, Doreen, of Hunts Point, Debbie (Dale) Banks, of Springhill; sons Gordon (Patricia), Wade (Thelma), both of Liverpool; grandchildren Jason, Scott, Lindsay, Dale, Shania, Brooke; great grandson Riley; sisters Nita Hyatt; of Bridgewater; Bertha Manthorne, of Liverpool, Joyce Doucette, of Toronto, Ontario, Madge Mead, of Halifax, Annie Stewart, of Bridgewater.

He was predeceased by his daughter Vickie; grandson Ashley; sisters Nina, Vilda; brothers Jack and St. Clair.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. OICKLE – Mary Lillian, 88, of Brooklyn, Queens County, passed away peacefully in Queens General Hospital, Liverpool on Friday, May 13th, 2011.
Born in South Lake, PEI, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Mary (Jarvis) MacDonald.
Mary was a long time, faithful member of St. Gregory’s Catholic Church, Liverpool. She enjoyed knitting and gardening and baking, especially biscuits and apple pies. Mary also enjoyed spending time with her family.
She is survived by her daughters Bernadette Cribby of Onsett, MA. Cheryl (Michael) Vaughan and Donalda, both of Calgary. Brenda MacDonald of Souris, PEI, Audrey Larkin of Brooklyn. Her sons: Patrick (Shirley) of PEI, Murray (Pat) of Charleston, Jordan (Bella “Annie”) of Mersey Point. Wade (Laurie) of Halifax. Many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her sisters: Margaret Fisher of South Lake, PEI, Eleanor (George) Cheveria of Charlottetown, Hazel (Maurice) Corr of Summerside, Anna Mae (Manuel) Goes of Millis, MA. Her brothers: Elwin of Souris, PEI and Waldo (Marjorie) of Millis MA.
She was predeceased by he husband Charles, her sons Dale, Brian and Robert, A sister Theresa, brothers Joe, Bernard and Daniel.

SUTHERLAND – Chester G., 88, of South Brookfield, Queens County, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 12th, 2011 at home with his family by his side.
Born in Molega Mines, he was a son of the late Robert K. and Ethel M. (Whynot) Sutherland.
He served with the Royal Canadian Infantry overseas during World War Two. Upon his return he served as a protection officer for Department of Fisheries and Oceans for 28 years. He was a member of A.L. Patterson Branch #87, Royal Canadian Legion, Caledonia for 30 years and served as 1st Vice President. He was a life time member and past president of the Nova Scotia Guides Association and also a member and 1st vice president of the Fish and Game Association. He was a member of the South Brookfield United Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years Isabel (McArthur); his daughters Christine (Donald) Hyson of Beaverbank, Bonnie (Garnet) DeLong of Albany New, Catherine (Leigh) Merry of Maitland Bridge, Margaret Weare of Harmony. His sons: Robert (Wilda) of Harmony and Peter, at home. 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. His sister Mary (Harley) Boland of Bang’s Falls.
He was predeceased by his grandson Troy Merry.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. Funeral service will be Monday, May 16th, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in South Brookfield United Baptist Church. WENTZELL – Sherry, 48. It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Sherry on May 11, 2011 after a long struggle with Multiple Sclerosis.
Born in Liverpool, she was the daughter of Marjorie and Lawrence Wentzell.
Sherry resided at Northwood where she received excellent care and had many friends. During her career, she worked for I.H. Mathers and in the Premier’s office for the Province of Nova Scotia. Sherry brightened the lives of those who knew her with her dry sense of humour and her gentle and kind nature.
In addition to her parents, she will be missed by her sisters Nancy (Jim) Sproull, Valerie (Bernie Power), Janice (Kevin Miles) and her brother Byron.
Funeral service will be Saturday, May 14th, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. from St. John’s Anglican Church, Eagle Head. Chaplain Donald Lawton officiating. Burial will be in St. John’s Anglican Cemetery, West Berlin followed by a reception in St. John’s Anglican Hall. Neil Robert Wilkinson passed away peacefully on April 15, 2011 in Liverpool, Nova Scotia at the age of 81 years. Neil was born in Leduc, Alberta on April 1, 1930, the eldest child to Edmund and Dorothy. Neil is survived by 5 siblings, Joan, Joyce (Bill), Doreen (Herman), Alan, and Donna (Ron) all whom reside in Alberta. Neil retired to Nova Scotia after a long and successful career with the Bank of Montreal which took him from Leduc to Calgary, Alberta, Frobisher Bay in the Northwest Territories and on to Montreal, Quebec. Neil was an avid gardener and he lived a quiet life in a small cottage where he could spend his time reading and tending to his gardens. Neil had a quick wit, keen mind and a creative spirit. He will be fondly remembered by family and friends. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. There will be no funeral service as per Neil’s wishes. JOHNSON – Armond C., 78, of Brooklyn, Queens County passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 8th, 2011 at home.
Born in Danesville, he was a son of the late C. Clifford and Hazel M. (Whynot) Johnson.
Armond was well known as a hard worker. He was a school bus driver and a driver for Irving Oil. He was a former employee with Corbettt’s Gun and Tackle. In his spare time he enjoyed walks in the woods, hunting, fishing and working in his yard.
He is survived by his daughter Carol (Andrew) MacLeod of Hammonds Plains; stepdaughter Jane Warner (Bill Roy) of Brooklyn, stepson Stephen Jollimore (Tabitha Flood) of Brooklyn 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. His brothers Gardner (Joan), Algar, Clifford (Donna), all of Brooklyn and Norwood of Maitland Bridge.
He was predeceased by his wife Helen (Whynot)(Jollimore) Johnson.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool, where visitation will be held prior to memorial service from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. and memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday May 13th, 2011. RAFUSE – Belle Hilda, 80 of Queens Manor, Liverpool formerly of Charleston, Queens County, passed away peacefully in Queens General Hospital Liverpool Wednesday, May 4th, 2011.
Born in Charleston, she was a daughter of the late Irving F. and Mildred G. (Croft) Hirtle.
Hilda was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening, cooking, crocheting and crafts.
She is survived by her husband James William “Bill” of Queens Manor, her sister Adelaide Rafuse of Charleston. Many nieces and a grand nephew.

Watts; John Smith

John Smith Watts, Liverpool and Dartmouth.
Son, brother, uncle, friend, soldier, basketball coach, and referee, sports fisherman, golfer, avid collector of jokers, drafting technician, chef and proud father of his daughter Kathy.
John passed away on May 2, 2011
John was born in Pictou, NS in 1941, the son of Mary Natalie (DeCoste) Watts and William Nathaniel Smith Watts. His father was sent overseas as Regimental Sergeant Major of the North Nova Scotia Regiment shortly after John was born. John spent his early years with his mother, sister and grandparents in Pictou.
John was five when the family moved to Liverpool after the war. Upon completion of high school in Liverpool he attended the Saint John Technical Institute in Saint John, NB, graduating as a drafting technician. He returned to Liverpool to work at Steel and Engine Products Limited.
John joined the 133rd Battery, 14th Field Regiment Militia (Artillery) in 1963 as a 2/Lt and at the time of the Battery’s dissolution in late 1969 had been awarded the rank of Captain. A member of Somme Branch, Canadian Legion in Dartmouth, John was an accomplished pool player and leaves behind many friends and good times.
Always an avid follower of basketball, John coached men’s teams in Liverpool in the 1960s and 1970s. His teams won several Nova Scotia Championships, culminating in a Maritime Intermediate B Crown in 1973 and that team has been inducted in the Queens County Sports Hall of Fame. John was also a stand-out basketball referee in the same timeframe.
John decided on a career change in 1985 and attended the Nova Scotia Institute of Technology in Halifax to study to be a chef. After graduation he worked for some time at White Point Beach Lodge, later moving to Dartmouth where he was chef in the Keddy’s Motel Chain and at the Apple Barrel Restaurant in Halifax.
He is survived by his life partner, Carol Anne Hatt of Liverpool, his daughter Katherine Angela (Wayne Warrington) Watts of Dartmouth, his sister Sally Ann (Maurice) Lloyd of Dartmouth, his niece Moira (Scott) Fry, his nephew Charles (Georgia) Lloyd and his three grand nieces and two grand nephews, all of Dartmouth. He will also be missed by Carol Anne’s children Lisa (Greg) Killam and Shane (Holly) Hatt of Liverpool. He was predeceased by his father and mother.
A Celebration of John’s life will be held Friday, May 6th, 2011, at 3:00 P.M., from St. Gregory’s Catholic Church, Liverpool. Father Brian Murphy officiating.
