Nickerson; Michael Ormand

Nickerson, Michael Ormand, 63, of Liverpool, Queens County, passed away Saturday, January 29th, 2011, in Queens General Hospital, Liverpool.

Born in Wolfville, he was a son of William and Roberta (Brown) Nickerson, of Liverpool.

Mike retired in 2000 after working for nearly 30 years at the Bowater Mersey Paper Company. He was well known for his love of sports, especially basketball.  He enjoyed spending time at his hunting camp in Jones Harbour where he was an avid duck hunter.  Mike loved spending time with his family and friends at the family cottage in Summerville, where he was affectionately known as the mayor of Summerville by his friends.

He is survived by his companion Ann Bellefontaine; daughter Kerri Nickerson (John MacNeil), of Halifax; son Stephen, of Summerville; granddaughter Olivia; brother Peter (Eileen), of Beaverbank; sister in law Crystal Smith,  of Mersey Point; nephew David Nickerson (Robyn White), of Dartmouth; extended family Nicolle Bellefontaine (John Powers), and Michelle Bellefontaine both  of Sackville.

He was predeceased by his wife, the former Patricia Lorraine Tonello.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 1st, 2011,at Chandlers Funeral Home,from 7-9 p.m.. A Celebration of Michael’s Life will be held Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011, at 11:00 a.m., from the Liverpool United Baptist Church. Reverend Steven Hopper officiating. Family flowers only. Mansfield; Maxine Marie

MANSFIELD: Maxine M., 61, of Caledonia, Queens County, passed away suddenly in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater on Friday, January 28th, 2011.

                          Born in Liverpool on November 3rd, 1949, she was a daughter of the late James Croft and Vivian (Mansfield) (Croft) Berry.

                          Maxine was a personal care worker with  North Queens Nursing Home, Caledonia for over 20 years and union member and past president of CUPE Local 2997, Caledonia. She enjoyed bingo. She was a loving, caring wife, mother and grandmother with a kind and generous heart for caring, listening, sharing, and helping others. Always a shoulder to cry on and look to for advice when needed. She will always be remembered as a mother figure to all and full of life.

She is survived by her sons: Steven (Cheryl) and James (Lori), and Terry (Tabitha) all of Harmony Mills, Gary (Suanne) of Hibernia.  10 grandchildren. Sisters: Patricia (Millage) Weare of Shelburne, Elizabeth  “Libby” (Paul) Wilson of Brampton, ON, Joyce Fancy of Hibernia and Debra (William) Kempton of Harmony. Brothers: Burton (Ellen) Croft and Wayne (Charlene) Berry, both of Brampton, ON, James (Teresa) Croft of Utopia, ON, John (Angela) Berry of Hibernia. Son in law Joseph Callaghan Her much loved dog Maggie.

She was predeceased by her husband LeRoy “Junior” Mansfield;  daughter Tammy Callaghan; infant granddaughter Myra; brother Richard. Stepfather Murray Berry.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool, NS. where visitation will be held Thursday, February 3rd, 2011. from 6 until 8 p.m. A graveside memorial service will be held Friday, February 4th, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in Harmony Cemetery. MacADAMS – Evelyn T.,  93, of Hunt’s Point, Queens County, passed away peacefully in North Queens Nursing Home, Caledonia on Thursday, January 27th, 2011.

                    Born in Sandy Bay, Queens County she was a daughter of the late H. “Mack” and Frances (Shultz) Leslie.

Evelyn was a former teacher in Shelburne County and also served as a postmistress in Port l’Herbert. She was a clerk for the former Metropolitan Store in Liverpool for a number of years. She was a member of Wesley United Church in Hunt’s Point  as well as the U.C.W. She was a member of Queens Chapter #34, Order of Eastern Star, Crescent Chapter #70, Order of Eastern Star, Lockeport and the Sable River Women’s Institute.

She is survived by her husband Glenn; her son Linwood (Barbara) Wolfe, of Wasaga Beach, ON.  Grandchildren Richard Wolfe and Karen Wolfe and great grandchildren Tiffany, Evan, Grace and Hannah.

She was predeceased by her first husband Melbourne Wolfe and her brothers Harley and Eugene.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 8th, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. from Wesley United Church, Hunt’s Point. Reverend Bethe Benjamin-Cameron officiating. Burial will be in Oceanside Cemetery, Hunt’s Point. No flowers by request. Donations may be made to any charity. Wamboldt; Pauline M.

WAMBOLDT – Pauline M.,  86, formerly of Port Medway, Queens County, passed away peacefully in North Queens Nursing Home on Monday, January 24th, 2011.

             Born in Devonshire, West Caledonia on August 12, 1924, she was a daughter of the late John and Annie (Coade) Carver.

             In her teen years, Pauline moved to Milton where she worked as a  housekeeper and nanny for local families. She enjoyed dances, playing cards, going to variety shows and bus tours with her sisters and friends. She is a past member of the Women’s Institute of Nova Scotia (WINS), the Port Medway Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and St. Gregory’s Catholic Church Ladies Auxiliary.

Surviving are her son David and daughter in law Dianne of Milton. Daughter in law Betty Lou of Beach Meadows. Three grandsons: Adam (Erin) of Port Medway; Chris (Joanne) and Derek (Lori), both of Summerside, PEI; four great grandsons. Sisters Marguerite Holdright of Kempt and Althea (Tim) Rowter of Maitland Bridge. Many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Paul, son Paul Douglas, sisters Jean Seldon, Beulah Cashman, Lurleen Carver, Zora Mills, Dora Mills, Helen Mooers and Mae McBride. Brothers Kenneth and Eddie.

Visitation will be  Wednesday, January 26th, 2011 from 7 until 9 p.m. in Chandlers’ Funeral Chapel, Liverpool. Funeral service will be held Thursday, January 27th, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. from St. Gregory’s Catholic Church. Liverpool. Father Brian Murphy officiating. Stewart; Katie Maxine

STEWART – Katie M., 87,  of Lunenburg, formerly of Liverpool, passed away peacefully in Veteran’s Unit, Fisherman’s Memorial Hospital.

             Born in Stanley Section, New Germany, she was a daughter of the late Clyde and Floy (Jefferson) Ritchie.

             Katie was a veteran of World War II serving with the Canadian Women’s Army Corps as an M.P. Her training with the Canadian Provost Corps officers included judo, military law, map reading, security regulations and first aid and enabled her to become one of the most highly trained C.W.A.C. members in the country. Following the war, she worked in the woods hauling logs with horses and later she married her husband James “Randall” and devoted herself to her family while selling fish for many years after moving to Liverpool. She enjoyed singing and playing guitar and was a member of Harding Branch #144, Royal Canadian Legion, Western Shore.

She is survived by her daughter Darlene and granddaughters Leesha and Anita all of Western Shore; Son Eugene of Labelle.  Sister Ruth Joudrey of Upper Cornwall. Brother Ralph (Emily) of Stanley Section, New Germany.

She was predeceased by her husband James “Randall”,  son Stanley Wayne, Sister Verna Lowe and Brothers Lester and Ernest.

Visitation will be Thursday, January 20, 2011 from 1 until 2 p.m. and funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. along with a legion memorial service all in Chandlers’ Funeral Chapel, Liverpool. Reverend Andrew Shute officiating. Burial will be in Pine Rest Cemetery, Greenfield. Gilmour; Joan Elizabeth

Joan Elizabeth Gilmour (nee Cant), of Milton, Nova Scotia passed away on Thursday December 30th 2010 at Queens General hospital with her daughter by her side, following a valiant battle with cancer.

Born in Evesham, in the County of Worcester in the United Kingdom, she was the daughter of the late John  and the late Kathleen (Thornton) Cant.

Joan emigrated to Canada in 1963, to pursue a job as a nanny. She married Bryan Gilmour in 1966 and was tragically widowed in 1977. Joan raised her two children on her own and enjoyed a successful career in sales and customer service with her last position being at Manheim Auto Auctions in Toronto. Joan was able to semi-retire in 2003 and fulfilled a dream of opening a bed and breakfast with her daughter. Joan was passionate about cooking, gardening and decorating and those pursuits combined with her warm hospitality ensured great success with many return visitors. Joan enjoyed spending time with friends and living life to the fullest with those she loved. She was able to enjoy a much anticipated final Christmas with family and friends in Ontario.

Joan is survived by and will be deeply missed by her two loving children Karen (Chris Currie) of Milton and Micheal (Kahney Long) of Toronto, her cherished grand daughter Grace Currie of Milton, sister Diana Sutcliffe, best friends Helen and Joe Devoy along with their children and families and many other friends in Ontario and family in Britain.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. A memorial service and reception will take place at the Gilmour / Currie residence at 348 Highway 8 in Milton at 2pm on Sunday, January 16, 2011.  Charitable donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Menanoma Research Foundation or to Queens General Hospital.
