Conrad; Beverly Gail

Beverly Gail Conrad (nee Freeman) -72, of Liverpool passed away peacefully surrounded and tightly held by her family at Queens General Hospital in Liverpool on November 22, 2010.

 She was the oldest daughter of the late Ruth Eldora Boland and Joseph Allan Freeman.

Bev worked at Fahie’s Nursing Home, Lane’s and the Transcotia Motel as a cook.

 She leaves behind daughters Vicki (Gerard) Lewis of Liverpool, Cheryl (Stephen) Beaton of Brooklyn, Brenda Munroe of Charleston, Lori (Dave) Drew of Timberlea, Julie (Byron) Thorburne of Liverpool and sons Vernon “Ricky” (Becky) Munroe of Liverpool, Brian (Sharon) Munroe of Mersey Point, Ronnie Munroe of Liverpool, and Glen (Annette) Munroe of Liverpool. Grandson, Andrew Freeman of Charleston. Sisters Anna (George) Roberts, Joan (Peter) Whynot, June (the late Gerald) Wagner, Janet (St Clair) Whynot of Liverpool, Margaret (Alan) Hatt of Molega, Elizabeth Langille of Halifax.  Also surviving are the many grandchildren and great grandchildren that love her very dearly.  Bev (Nan)  was always helping someone and her kind and giving spirit will be missed.

 Predeceased by her first husband Vernon Munroe, late husband Leonard Conrad; grandson Michael Munroe and great-granddaughter Chloe Beaton.

 There will be a celebration of life her held at the Brooklyn Community Hall on Saturday, November 27th from 1-3 pm.  No flowers by request. Donation may be made to Long Lake Camp. Condolences may be made through www.chandlersfuneral.com

Burns; Laura Belle

BURNS – Laura Belle,  86, passed away in Liverpool on November 27th, 2010.

                 Born in Cambridge, Mass., on July 19th, 1924, she retired in 1990 to Milton, NS to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren.

                 She is survived by her daughter Patricia (Burns) Whynot. Grandchildren Aaron (Janet) of Toronto, ON; Kristen (Luis) Barcalar, Mexico; Paige of Liverpool. She will be greatly missed by her best friends Shirley Mijal of Florida and Alice Dean of Chelsea, Mass.

                 Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. Interment will be at a later date in Mount Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge, Mass. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Online condolences may be made to www.chandlersfuneral.com

Godfrey; Edward “Bub”

It is with great sadness that the family of Edward M. “Bub” Godfrey announces his passing peacefully at Queens Manor, Liverpool, on Saturday, November 20th, 2010.

Born in Brooklyn, he was a son of the late Arnold and Marion (Cole) Godfrey.

Bub worked for Bowater Mersey Paper Company for thirty seven years and went lobster fishing on his vacations. He always spoke fondly about his duck and rabbit hunting trips with his black lab, Lady. An excellent carpenter, family members were the grateful recipients of his many wood working projects. Married for over sixty years, Bub was devoted to his beloved wife Margie and his family. His grandchildren and great grandchildren were his pride and joy. Family gatherings were always the highlight of his life and his sense of humor and ability to bring a smile will be sorely missed.

Surviving besides his wife are his daughters: Joyce Raymond of Burlington, On; Joan (Donald) Moreau of Mill Village; Betty (Bernie) Hatt of Conqueral Bank; Peggy (Murray) Whynot of Milton. Sons: Allan (Margo)  of Liverpool and Steven (Jackie) of Milton. 11 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Brothers: George (Georgie) of Kingston, On.; Andrew (Lil) Beach Meadows; John (Joanne) of Brooklyn; David (Janet) of Brooklyn.

He was predeceased by a granddaughter Ann; twin brothers Ronald in infancy and Reginald; son in law Greg Raymond.

Funeral service will be held Thursday, November 25th, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. from Chandlers’ Funeral Chapel, Liverpool. Lay Minister Peter Anthony officiating. Hunt; John Payzant

HUNT – John P., 70, of Milton, Queens County, passed away suddenly at home, on Tuesday, November 9th, 2010.

             Born in Liverpool, he was a son of the late John and Elsie (Joudrey) Hunt.

             John  worked in the retail business for 40 years: Wilson’s Shopping Centre in Barrington Passage from 1977 to 1986 as a furniture and a appliance salesman and moved to Liverpool to work at Home Hardware until he retired in 2003. He was a member of the Liverpool Loins Club since 1994, treasurer of the Kidney Foundation; Nova Scotia Branch since 1994.

He is survived by his sons Christopher and Dwayne (Cathy), both of Barrington Passage.  5 grandchildren. Brothers: Boardman (Marlene) of Greenfield; Samuel (Zola) of Dutton, Montana; Wilbert (Marion) of Great Falls, Montana; and half brother Dr. Harry (Gail) Gardner of  Kentville.

He was predeceased by his wife Beverly (Whynot); sister Anne Kopys and step father Ernest Gardner,

Visitation will be today (Thursday, November 11th, 2010) from 3 until 5 p.m. and funeral service will be Friday, November 12th, 2010 at 11:00 a.m., both in Chandlers’ Funeral Chapel, Liverpool. Smith; Claude Parker

SMITH – Claude Parker,  91, of Liverpool, formerly of Hunt’s Point, passed away peacefully in Queens General Hospital, Liverpool, Tuesday, November 9th, 2010 with family by his side.

             Born in East Port l’Herbert, he was a son of the late Arthur and Hilda (Leslie) Smith.

             Claude was a  fisherman in his early years, a door to door salesman for a number of years as well as a new and used car salesman for 5 years first with L.L. Bain, then Liverpool Chrysler Dodge and later with T.& C. Pontiac Buick Ltd. for 25 years. He was a former school bus driver and in his spare time, enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was an avid music fan and enjoyed many types of music. In his early years he played harmonica and accordion  and later, during his retirement, he played guitar and organ for his own entertainment as well as church groups and others. He was also a founding member of the Fishermen Men’s Choir. He was a member of the Port Joli United Church and later Wesley United Church, Hunt’s Point. He was a member of  the church Session and served as Clerk for three five year terms. He also served on the South Shore Presbytery of the United Church of Canada for 20 years.

He is survived by his wife Mary (Blades); daughters: Marilyn Chetwynd of Kelowna, BC; Gloria (Lewis) Corkum of Langley, BC; Valerie Piche of Terrace, BC. His son Vinal (Betty) of White Point and step- sons: Peter (Amanda) Goodwin of Jordan Falls and Reg Goodwin of Bedford. Grandchildren: Ben, Jacob, Cheryl, Kim, Tammy, Sandra, Kelda, Jason and Levi and great grandchildren: Rebecca, Kelsey, Courtney, Brooke, Sydney and Jessica.

He was predeceased by his first wife Alma (MacDonald) and his sister Viola MacDonald.

Funeral service will be Saturday, November 13th, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in Chandlers’ Funeral Chapel, Liverpool. Reverend Bethe Benjamin-Cameron officiating assisted by Reverend Neil MacDonald. Burial will be at a later date following cremation. No flowers by request, donations may be made to the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Wesley United Church, Hunt’s Point. MacDonald; Leslie

MacDonald, Leslie, 96, of Port Joli, Queens County, passed away Thursday, November 4th, 2010, in the Queens General Hospital, Liverpool, with his family by his side.

Born in Sandy Bay, he was a son of the late John and Grace (Decker) MacDonald.

Leslie worked for over 50 years as a fisherman. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who was very proud of his family. He was a member of the Port Mouton United Church and the Port Mouton Seniors Club. He enjoyed hunting and in his later years bowling.

He is survived by a daughter Pearle (Harold) Leslie, of Port Mouton; sons L. Garfield, of Halifax, Phillip (Barbara), of Port Joli; grandchildren Tracy, Heather, Todd, Adam; great grandchildren Travis, Kevin, Grace, Eric, Lauren, Addison, Bree; sister Florena Newell, of Bridgewater.

He was predeceased by his wife, the former Viola Pearle (Smith); sisters Gladys, Alma, Doris, Meta; brothers Roderick, Leander, Lawrence, Jasper, Edgar and Stanley.

Visitation will be held Sunday, November 7th, 2010, from 7-9 p.m., and a Funeral Service will be held Monday, November 8th, 2010, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception, both from Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. Reverend Bethe Benjamin – Cameron officiating. Burial will be in Port Joli Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Port Mouton United Church or to the charity of your choice.
