Himmelman; David Russell

 Himmelman, David Russell, 69, of Brooklyn, Queens County, went home with his Lord, Tuesday, October 26th, 2010, at home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Liverpool, he was a son of the late Laurie and Marion (Peach) Himmelman.

His first job was on the Gypsum Boats, before going to work in the woodroom at Bowater Mersey Paper Company, where he worked for over 30 years up until his retirement. David loved anything to do with the sea, whether it was being on the boat lobster fishing, which he did from the age of 12, or taking his beloved Sunday afternoon drive along the ocean side.  His grandchildren were his pride and joy and the more time he spent with them the happier he was.

He is survived by his loving wife, the former Judy Irene Frail; daughter Linda (Robert) Barker, of Liverpool; son Donald (Janet), of Eagle Head; grandchildren Kayla, Brandon, Breah, Garrett; brother Douglas (Beatrice), of Bridgewater; sister in law Rika, of Woodstock, Ontario.

He was predeceased by a sister Brenda and a brother Edward.

Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m., on Friday, October 29th, 2010, from Chandlers’ Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, October 30th, 2010, at 11:00 a.m., from Milton Baptist Church, followed by a reception. Reverend Corey Pickens and Reverend Doug Mailman officiating. Burial will be in Seaside Cemetery, Brooklyn. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the Canadian Red Cross, South Shore Palliative Care Service, or to the Milton Baptist Church. Croft; Lydia Cecelia

Croft, Lydia C. , 86 of Riverdale, Queens Co. , passed away quietly on Oct. 21, 2010 at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater.

Born in Riverdale, she was the daughter of the late Henry Osmond and Annie Sophia (Hirtle) Croft.

Perhaps best remembered for her sharp wit and polished social graces, Lydia touched the lives and hearts of many through her roles as homemaker, school bus driver and cook. Her love of the outdoors afforded her great success in hunting and fishing and her fly tying skills were enjoyed by (among others) actor Robert Young and Queen Elizabeth II. In addition to helping raise two family generations, Lydia was both a Cancer survivor and a self-taught reader, testaments to her strength of character and will.

Lydia is survived by her son Alex (Amy) Croft of Riverdale, daughter Audrey Croft-Spencer, Melbourne Florida, grandsons Jason (Catherine) Croft, Truro, and  Patrick (Catherine) Spencer, USA. Grandaughter Lydia Spencer, Florida , and four great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband Perry Croft .

STUEWE, Richard Allen “Dick”  - Dick was born on February 26, 1929 in Great Falls, Montana, and passed away peacefully with his family at his side on October 17, 2010, at the age of 81 years in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, NS

              Dick moved to Sydney, Nova Scotia at the age of nine months. After graduation from Sydney High School, Dick joined the Bank of Montreal, where he spent his entire career of 37 years, primarily within the Atlantic Provinces, before retiring in 1984. Dick was always active in the community, no matter where his career with the bank took him and his family. While living in Liverpool, Nova Scotia, he served as President of the Kiwanis Club, President of the Children’s Aid Society, and Treasurer of the Liverpool Chamber of Commerce. Dick also faithfully served the Catholic Church in different capacities and Parishes. He was one of the first Lay Readers, at the Mary Queen of Peace Parish in St. Johns, Newfoundland, Eucharistic Minister and Chairman of the Parish Council at St. Anthony’s Parish in Hubbards, Nova Scotia, and was proud to serve as the first Chairman of the St. Gregory’s Parish Council, when it was first formed in Liverpool. Dick was Past Grand Knight of Halifax Council 1049, Honorary Member of the Knights of Columbus, and Honorary Member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.

Dick is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Kathleen “Kay” (MacNeil); sons Ron  (Nancy) of Calgary, Alberta; Blair (Julie) of Dhahran, Saudi Arabia and Don (Leslie) of Wolfville, Nova Scotia; grandsons Bill & Riley; granddaughters Erin & Taylor: and sister, Mary Carmel “Mel” Twomey, of Toronto, ON.

Pre-deceased are brothers Jack and Bill and sister Katherine Clair “KC” Gunn.

Visitation will be Tuesday, October 19th, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in Chandlers’ Funeral Chapel, Liverpool.  Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 20th, 2010 at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church, Liverpool. Father Brian Murphy officiating. Burial will be in St. Gregory’s Catholic Cemetery, College Street, Liverpool.  Family flowers only, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or to any charity of choice. GALLAGHER-FREEMAN; Paula L.,  45, of Milton, Queens County passed away suddenly in Queens General Hospital, Liverpool, on Sunday, October 3rd, 2010.

Born in Liverpool, she was a daughter of Janet (Johnson) MacNutt of Milton and the late Merrill MacNutt.

Paula provided warm, friendly customer service at the Corner Kwik-way in Milton. She had a love of animals and enjoyed gardening, swimming, camping, beachcombing and spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed spending time with her friends at “Alley Nine” for Karaoke.

Surviving besides her mother are her daughter Megan of Milton; her sons Alex and Liam of Milton. Her sister Susan of Montreal and her companion Brian Muise of Milton.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. Funeral service will be held Friday, October 8th, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. in Trinity Anglican Church, Liverpool. Reverend Judy Cross officiating. Burial will be in Milton Community Cemetery. No flowers by request. Roy; Mildred Eugenie

ROY – Mildred Eugenie, 83, of Queens Manor, Liverpool, formerly of Port Mouton, Queens County, passed away Friday, October 1st, 2010 in Queens Manor.

             Born October 30th, 1926, in Port Mouton, she was a daughter of the late Lawrence and Lena (DeMone) Hanson.

             Mildred was a former supervisor for C.W. MacLeod’s Fisheries for many years. She was a life member of Mersey Branch #38, Royal Canadian Legion, Liverpool. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, crafts and bingo. She was known to her granddaughters and great grandchildren as “Nannie and the other Nannie”. Her family was the love of her life.

She is survived by her daughters: Sharon (Ronald) Verge of Hunt’s Point and Judith (Lloyd) Roy of Port Mouton. Granddaughters Linda Roy (Craig Buffett) of Bridgewater, Michelle (Thomas) Verge-Bollivar of Western Head, Marsha (Michael) Ringer of Liverpool.  Great grandchildren Alyson, Bradley and Christopher Bowers; Jamie and Colin Long; Rhys Bollivar; Ethan and Brody Ringer. Sister Betty Decker of Port Mouton and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Carl; Brothers Lawrence Jr., St. Clair and Earl. Sisters: Lorraine and Carol.

Visitation will be Tuesday, October 5th, 2010 from 7 until 9 p.m. and funeral service will be Wednesday, October 6th, 2010 at 11:00 a.m.  both in Chandlers’ Funeral Chapel,, Liverpool. Reverend Judy Cross officiating. Burial will be in Peaceful Hill Cemetery, Port Mouton.
