LUSHMAN – Thomas William “Tom” 66, of Liverpool, Queens County, passed away at home on Sunday, August 29th, 2010.

             Born in Burgeo, Newfoundland, he was a son of the late Thomas and Ida Lushman.

             Tom worked as a fisherman for a time and a deckhand aboard the oil tanker “Seaconch”. He was a driver for the former Astoria Beverages.

He is survived by his wife Linda (Whynot); Son Colin (Janine) of Dayspring and grandchildren Stephanie, Kaitlynn and Nathan of Bridgewater. Sisters: Marion, Ann, Shirley, Marie, Daisy and Linda and brothers Wes and Brad, all of Newfoundland.

He was predeceased by brothers Albert and Frederick and sisters Mamie and Sussana.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool, where funeral service will be held Friday, September 3rd, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. Chaplain Donald Lawton officiating. Thompson; William Lloyd

THOMPSON – William Lloyd,  84, of Port Mouton, Queens County, passed away peacefully at Queens General Hospital, Liverpool on Thursday, August 26th, 2010.

                         Born in Montreal, Quebec, he was the son of the late William and Phyllis (Wood) Thompson and loving husband of the late Maryellen (Kinsella) Thompson.

                         Survived by four sons: Timothy (Denise Lauzon) of Vaudreuil, PQ; Alexander (Vicky Metcalfe) of Kirkland Lake, ON; Matthew (Renee Lavigne) of Choisy Rigaud, PQ; Phillip (Carolle Bonnar) of Grenville, PQ. Three daughters: Judith (Roger) Menard of Chester Grant; Mary Esther of St. Lazare, PQ; Catherine of Pierrefonds, PQ. 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

William “Bill” enjoyed gardening, stamp collecting, coin collecting and the great outdoors.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. A memorial service will be held Thursday, September 2nd, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in Port Mouton United Church. Reverend  Bethe Benjamin-Cameron officiating. Burial will be in Seaside Cemetery, Brooklyn. No flowers by request. CRAIG – Paul Richard of Liverpool, passed away August 27th, 2010 at home.

           He was the son of the late Alfred and Doris (Whynot) Craig.

           Paul loved life and family. He had a great passion for music and guitar. He worked in construction for many years as a backhoe operator. He was a former employee  for the Region of Queens Works Department with Maintenance.

Paul will be sadly missed by his wife of 31 years Brenda (Adams)(Butler); sons: Danny (Tanya) of Bridgewater; Mike (Brenda) of Pinehurst; Wade (Jenn) of Saskatchewan; Clyde (Theresa) and Richard (Dawn) both of Halifax; Roger (Krista) of Shelburne. Daughter Lynette (Lloyd) Joudrey of Bridgewater. Chrystalee (Kendall) MacLean of New Germany. Patricia (Scott) Mansfield of Caledonia. Cheryl of Halifax. His sister Mary Slauenwhite of Kentville. His brother David (Connie) of Brooklyn. 18 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren; 4 nieces, 2 nephews and his special friend, Scott Orme, whom he had a special place in his heart.

He was predeceased by his son Richard; infant grandsons Chayce and Jarred; brother George.

Labrador, Onieta Hazel, of Sable River, Shelburne County, passed away Friday, August 27th, 2010, in the Infirmary Site, of the QEII Health Sciences Centre.

Born in West Green Harbour, she was a daughter of the late Dexter and Hazel (Staurt) Williams.

She is survived by her loving daughter Caroline (Wayne H.) Whynot, of Milton; granddaughter Dana (Kelly) Frank, of Port Joli; grandson Waverly (Donna) Whynot, of Beech Hill; great granddaughters Kari, Alisha; great grandsons Tyler (Amanda) and Ryan.

She was predeceased by her husband Frank, grandson Wade, sisters Elizabeth, Helen; brother Calvin; half sisters Mary, Angeline; half brother Morton.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. A Graveside Service will be held Tuesday, August 31st, 2010, at 11:00 A.M., from the Milton Community Cemetery. Whynot, Wilson Carl

Whynot, Wilson Carl, 57, of Danesville, passed away Friday, August 27th, 2010, at Queens General Hospital, Liverpool.

Born on March 21st, 1953, in Liverpool, he was a son of Rosaline (Crossland) Whynot, of Danesville and the late Carl Whynot.

He is survived by his wife Maxine (Hatt); sons Tony (Melissa), of Middlewood, Randall (Patricia), of Danesville; grandson Cameron; sister Irene (Sam) Llewellyn, of Middlewood; brothers Gerald (Linda), of Hebb’s Cross, Miles (Brenda), of Middlewood, Allen (Kimmie), of Danesville; brother in law Carl Nowe, of Danesville; many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister Gloria Nowe.

During his lifetime Wilson worked for Brady’s, Nauss Bros., Acadia Construction, Steve Barry, Dexter’s Construction and lastly Freeman’s Lumber, in Greenfield. Wilson enjoyed woodworking, making stick furniture, collecting antiques and cuff links. He also enjoyed making wine, going to yard sales and flea markets.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 31st, 2010, from 7-9 p.m., at Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. A Celebration of Wilson’s Life will be held Wednesday, September 1st, 2010, at 11:00 a.m., from the Danesville United Church, Danesville. Reverend Vivian Moores officiating. Manning (MacLellan); Norma Mildred

It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Norma Mildred (MacLellan) Manning at the North Queens Nursing Home.  Prior to moving to Caledonia, she was a resident of  Liverpool and Summerville Centre.  She was born in Newton Highlands, Mass, on August 15, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Gretchen Edwards.  She was predeceased by her first husband, Donald MacLellan, New Glasgow, her second husband Walter Manning, Summerville Centre and daughter Carol Porter Davidson. She is survived by her brother, Ralph Edwards, Hopkinton, Mass., her daughter Gretchen Lohnes and husband,  Richard, Chester; son Carl MacLellan and wife, Doris, Bridgewater and Qatar, and daughter Janet, Mission BC;  grandchildren Gregory and Lesley Streatch, Ryan, Steven and Kristen MacLellan, Kathy and Robby Porter.  She is also survived by stepchildren Mary and her children Kendall, Allison and John of Shelburne, and David Manning and his children Neil and Sarah, Milford.  She is also survived by seven great grandchildren and as well as many nieces and nephews.

Norma was a graduate, in Home Economics, of Acadia University.  She taught in Liverpool and New Glasgow.  She believed that volunteering was a total pleasure as it brought one into contact with people of all ages and stages in life from whom one could listen and learn, and sometimes teach.  She was very active in volunteer work with the Balmoral Pipe Band, Boy Scouts, and Brownies.  She taught Sunday School and C.G.I.T. at the First Presbyterian Church, Stellarton and was a member of the Missionary Society and Church Guild. She helped establish the New Life Chapter #67 and held the position of President for three years during which time the group established the Pictou County Day Care Centre at Lourdes.  This was the first subsidized Day Care in Nova Scotia and the chapter received international recognition for this project.  She was Secretary/Treasurer of the Pictou County Council of Senior Citizens which established the Senior’s Help Line and was its first co-ordinator. 

Norma was a member of the Pictou County Arts and Craft Association, the Hector Centre Trust, and member and president for six years of the Pictou County Arthritis Society for which she received the Award of Merit.  She was also a member of the Pictou county Festival Committee and the Plymouth Golden Glen Club, and the Stellarite Club.

Visitation will be held Monday, August 30th, 2010, from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., at Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. Visitation will also be held Tuesday August 31st, 2010, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m., both from the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Home, Stellarton. Walsh, William Milford

William Milford Walsh, 78, born on November 28th, 1931, died after a short illness with his family present on Thursday evening, August 26, 2010 at the Saint John Regional Hospital.  Eldest son of  the late G. Evelyn & Michael Hugh Walsh of Brooklyn, Queens County, Nova Scotia.  “Willie” known by his wife Loretta or “Bill” known by his friends is survived by his wife Loretta Pearl (Thompson) of 55 years, son Michael Thomas of Braintree Mass., daughters Deborah Shaune Walsh-Daigle (Danny) of Fredericton and GayeAnn Thompson Walsh of Walsh Luggage Saint John NB.  Sister Marianne Mack of Mill Village NS, Brother John Michael Walsh (Sandra) of Brooklyn NS, nephews Christoper and Alfred Mack and Margo Leaman.

Bill enjoyed fishing and canoeing with his family on Ponhook Lake, Dancing with Loretta and volunteering with the Liverpool & Halifax Fire Departments.  His careers commenced in Nova Scotia selling Red Rose Tea in Cape Breton and selling cars in Liverpool.  Bill was transferred to Saint John in 1965 with a finance company and then embarked on a new career choice selling Diesel Trucks for many years, driving a school bus while operating their own company Walsh Luggage in Market Square.

Dad enjoyed stockcar racing and announced at the Airport Raceway and Hammond River Raceway for many years in the 70’s.  He loved motorcycle driving and was an instructor for the New Brunswick Safety council.  Bill and Loretta had fun bowling with their friends at Haymarket Square for many years as well.  Dad was a stellar pool player and a fine sportsman bringing in the championship many times with the final power play.  He was an avid model railroader spending many years designing and building his own layouts and watching the birds from his Model Railroading room.  Bill will be sorrowfully missed by his friends and family. 

Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, Saint John NB on Sunday August 29th, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Visitation will also be held on Monday August 30th, 2010 from Chandlers Funeral Home, Liverpool NS, from 7:30 to 9 pm and Tuesday from 12 noon til time of service. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday August 31 at 2 pm, from Chandlers Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Steven Hopper officiating. Interment will be in Zion Unnited Church Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Forbes; Myrtle Blanche

FORBES – Myrtle Blanche, 93, of Milton, Queens County, passed away Friday, July 30th, 2010 in Passamaquoddy Lodge, St. Andrews, NB.

Born in Vogler’s Cove, she was a daughter of the late Murray and Freda (Vogler) Nowe.

Myrtle’s great joy was going to her cottage on Cameron Lake. Until her early seventies, she was an avid canoer and enjoyed many canoe trips with her late husband John Archibald Forbes. Myrtle also enjoyed picnicking and walks on Summerville Beach. She loved to play cards, read, knit and crochet. Myrtle was a long standing member of the Arbutus Chapter, # 30, Order of the Eastern Star, Milton.

Myrtle is survived by her daughters: Paula Cooper-Bertke of St. Andrews, NB; Yvonne Ellis of Halifax, NS. and Cheryl Forbes of Ireland. Grandchildren: Debra Kerwin of Ottawa, ON.;  Andrew Cooper, St. Andrews, NB.; Jennifer Ellis, Digby, NS.; Amy McAllister, Halifax, NS. Great grandchildren: Jillian and Jennifer Kerwin;  Emilia and  Paulina Cooper.

Predeceased besides her parents and husband are her sister Pauline Conrad and her brother Owen.

Mansfield, Joan Marie, 62, of Harmony Mills, Queens County, passed away on August 19th, 2010, at the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater.

Born in Caledonia, she was a daughter of Eleanor Corkum, of Caledonia, and the late Willis Corkum.

Joan was a loving and caring person who loved her husband and family. She enjoyed being outdoors, going fishing with family members, she also had a passion for movies and music.

Joan is survived by her husband of 45 years, Franklyn; daughters Angela (Bobby Baltzer), of Bridgewater, Donna MacNutt (Garret Acker), of Harmony Mills; sons Bradley (Donna Wareham), of Perth Andover, N.B., Christopher (Eliza Zhou), of Burnaby, B.C., Glen (Nancy), Allan (Lorraine), both of Harmony Mills, Jaret (Tracey), of New Elm; 15 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 1 step grandson; sister Mabel Mansfield, Harmony Mills; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a grandson Patrick, in infancy.

SWIM – Meta Jane,  92, of Port Mouton, died Thursday, August 19th, 2010 in Queens General Hospital, Liverpool.

Born in Port l’Hebert, she was a daughter of the late John Edgar and Grace Dawson (Decker) MacDonald.

Affectionately known as “Nannie”, Meta was a generous, thoughtful, strong and feisty woman. She loved baking and cooking. She enjoyed daily drives and eating out for many years. She celebrated all special occasions surrounded by her family who she loved dearly.

She is survived by her husband Clifton, son Douglas (Rose Mary) Huskins, of Port Mouton; daughter Norma (Robert) Swim of Port Mouton; brother Leslie MacDonald of Port Joli; sister Florena Newell of Bridgewater. Grandchildren Alden and Laura Huskins, Megan (Daniel) Long, Sara (Robert) Wilkinson, Michael (Anne) Swim. Great grandchildren Aynsley, Cassidy and Caleb Long.

She was predeceased by her first husband Richard “Chester” Nunan Huskins, infant son Richard Clyde Huskins,  brothers Jasper, Leander, Edgar, Roderick, Lawrence and Stanley. Sisters Gladys Hayden, Alma Smith and Doris Davis.

Visitation will be Saturday, August 21st, 2010 from 7 until 9 p.m. in Chandlers’ Funeral Chapel, Liverpool. Funeral Service will be held Sunday, August 22nd, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in Liverpool United Baptist Church. Reverend Steven Hopper officiating.
