ARTHUR, Amy E.,  94, of Queens Manor, Liverpool, formerly of Milton, passed away peacefully in Queens Manor on Friday, May 28th, 2010.

             Born in Milton, she was a daughter of the late  Roland and Margaret (Walker) Mansfield.

             Amy was an active member in the Milton Christian Church; Disciples of Christ serving in various capacities as well as being the first lady elder. She loved to sew and to sing  and will be fondly remembered as a loving mother and grandmother to her family.

She is survived by her daughters Ruth (Dr. Stephen) Bedwell of Halifax; Jane (Thomas) Murphy of Kingston, ON. Her sons: Roland (Barbara Churchill) of Thunder Bay, ON and Gordon (Marsha) of Milton.  Seven grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Her brothers Roland of Fredericton, NB and Clyde of Toronto, Ont.

She was predeceased by her husband Harold, her son David, sister Ruth and brothers Herman, Lawrence and Roy.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in Milton Christian Church, Disciples of Christ. Reverend A.R. MacDonald officiating. Burial will be in Milton Community Cemetery. Brown; Belva Hazel

BROWN – Belva H.,  68, of Mersey Point, Queens County passed away suddenly at home on Friday, May 28th, 2010.

             Born in Liverpool, she was a daughter of the late Roger and Hazel (Layboldt) Boland.

             Belva was a Rural Service Mail Carrier for Canada Post for 32 years. She loved doing crossword puzzles, flowers, Elvis and was an avid fan of “Days of Our Lives”.

She is survived by her husband Riley; daughters: Shelley Roy of Mersey Point, Doreen Brown of Brooklyn. A son Matthew (Julie Oickle) of Liverpool. A sister Jean Uhlman of Upper Chelsea and brothers Linkard (Betty) of Mersey Point and Harley (Mary) of Caledonia as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a sister Ruth Walsh and brother Grover.

Visitation will be Tuesday, June 1st, 2010 from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. with a prayer service at 8:00 p.m. both in Chandlers’ Funeral Chapel, Liverpool. Burial will be at a later date. Coombs, Timothy Bradford

COOMBS – Timothy B., 53, of Milton, Queens County, passed away peacefully in Queens General Hospital, Liverpool on Wednesday, May 19th, 2010.

           Born in Liverpool, he was a son of the late Currie and Vera (Porter) Coombs.

           Tim worked for Aberdeen Paving for 15 years out of Yarmouth. He loved hunting and fishing  and enjoyed woodworking but, most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Sandra (Risser); daughters: Mindy Coombs (Darrell Warrington) of Liverpool. Melissa Coombs of Toronto and step-daughter Renee Robarts (Nathan Whynot) at home. Step-son Ryan Robarts at home. Brothers: Graydon (Jean) of Brooklyn, Lindsay (Marilyn) of Toronto, Stephen (Shirley) of Ontario. Brother in law Donnie Peach of  Greenfield.

He was predeceased by his sister Betty Peach and infant brother Stephen.

Getson; William C. “Bill”

GETSON – William Clark “Bill”, 76 – Bill passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family on 16 May 2010. Born February 16, 1934 in Greenfield Queens Co. N.S. at his grandparents home Harvey and Lucy Getson. He was the oldest child of the late Wilfred and Muriel (Uhlman) Getson.

              Bill was a flight engineer, who joined the Royal Canadian Air force in 1952. He loved to fly and spent over 18 000 hours in the air, traveling to many destinations around the world. Bill had accumulated 4800 on the Boxcar, 2300 on the Hercules, 10 000 on the Argus and 1000 on the Aurora Aircraft. He retired in 1984 as Chief Warrant Officer. He was a member and secretary of the Greenfield and District volunteer Fire Department for over 20 years. He was a member of the Greenfield Baptist Church, member and treasurer of the seniors club “Jolly Ponhookers”, belonged to the recreation committee and councilor of the Queens municipality for 10 years.

He so loved his life living at Annis lake that he made his cottage into his dream home. Bill is survived by his loving wife and best friend Della (Cowles). He was the devoted father of Mary-Ann, Debbie (George), Royce (Alice), Brent (Donna), Harvey (Donette). He will be missed by his loving grandchildren Cora-Leanne, Richard, James, Angela (Tyler), Amber, Travis and Keith and his great-grandson William. Sister Fern (Leaman), brothers Royce (Theresa), Edward (Jewell) plus his many other relatives and close friends.

He was predeceased by his former wife, Jacqueline (Smith) in 1963.
Bill’s remains have been donated to Dalhousie University for the advancement of Medical Research and Education, as his final act of generosity and concern for others, “in case the research could benefit someone else.” A celebration of life will be held at the Greenfield Recreation center on Saturday, 22 May, 2010 from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. A private graveside service will be held at a later date at Pine Rest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill’s memory may be made to Greenfield and District Fire Department, Pine Rest Cemetery Fund or the charity of your choice. Nickerson, Ruth Elizabeth “Betty”

NICKERSON – Ruth Elizabeth “Betty”, 86, of Brooklyn, passed away in North Queens Nursing Home, Caledonia, Saturday, May 15th, 2010.

Born in Bridgewater she was a daughter of the late Mervin and Ruth (Wagner) Knox.

Betty served in the Air Force. After leaving the Air Force she worked at the General Store in Brooklyn until it closed. She was a devoted member of the Pilgrim United Church, sang in the choir and was a member of the UCW. Betty loved animals, especially her Beagles.

Betty is survived by her brother Richard (Sylvia) of Lower Rose Bay, special friends Barry and Wanda Spinney of White Point, brother-in-law Graham Powell and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Aubrey, sisters Kathryn, Joan and Margot, brother Thomas and infant brother Douglas.

Visitation will be held   Wednesday, May 19th, 2010  from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. and  funeral service will be held Thursday, May 20th, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. both in Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. Wagner; Percy “Eugene”

WAGNER – Percy “Eugene”, 85, of Liverpool, passed away Sunday, May 16th, 2010, at home.

           Born in Liverpool, he was a son of the late Cecil and Laura (Woodworth) Wagner

           Eugene was a veteran of the second World War serving in continental Europe and worked at Mersey Paper Company for 36 years.

Eugene is survived by his son Danny (Anna), daughter Andrea (Gordon) Veinot, grandchildren Jonathan, Matthew, and Kimberly, great granddaughter Cailean and sister Georgina (Herman) Rawding.

He was predeceased by his wife Frances and brothers Chester and Douglas.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers Funeral Home, Liverpool. A private graveside service will be held at a later date. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the Zion United Cemetery Fund.

Huskins, Harvey Leonce

Harvey “Leonce” Huskins, 88, of Central Port Mouton and formerly of Lunenburg, passed away at the Queens General Hospital on Wednesday, May 12, 2010.

Born in Port Mouton on February 8, 1922, he was the youngest son of the late Alexander and Addie (Doggett) Huskins.

He worked as a laborer  until he joined the Army in 1942. He went overseas the following year, serving with the Princess Louise Fusiliers at Aldershot, England for three years. He was a member of good standing of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #23, Lunenburg. Upon leaving the Army he returned to Port Mouton where he was a fisherman and then soon took up the job of Lighthouse Keeper.  He kept the light at Little Hope; Spectacle Island in Port Mouton Bay for seven years and finally Battery Point in Lunenburg which he kept for 25½  years until his retirement.  During his time in Lunenburg he helped establish the local chapter of the Marine Auxiliary Coast Guard.

He enjoyed fixing lawn mowers & outboard motors, fishing, talking with friends, watching the Blue Jays and music. He often played with other local musicians.  He played the guitar, mouth organ and a little accordion; his favorite piece of music was a hymn called “Mountain Railroad”.   For many years he was a part of the world of CB radios, being a member of several clubs, as well as attending a multitude of C.B. Campouts over the years.

He is survived by his wife Marion & daughter Rebecca, Central Port Mouton; son Robin & wife June, South Alton, Kings County; grandson Matthew & wife Nicole, Antigonish; great-grandsons Dean & Simon, Antigonish; granddaughter Miranda Shupe & husband Chris, Falmouth and great-granddaughter Anna, Falmouth.

He was predeceased by brothers: Eddie, Douglas, Alman, George, Charlie, Chester, Clyde, Wilson and sister Violet in infancy.

Cremation has taken place and there will be no service by request.  Memorial donations may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund or the Lunenburg Veteran’s Unit.

Zwicker, Sharon Rose

ZWICKER – Sharon R.,  67, of Sandy Cove, Queens County, passed away suddenly at home on Saturday, May 15th, 2010.

Born in Bridgewater,  she was a daughter of the late Robert Connolly and Mildred (Crouse) (Connolly) Clattenburg and step father Charles Clattenburg.

Sharon was a former employee of Stedman’s Dept. Store in Dartmouth,  Vic Mouzar’s Store in Brooklyn. and waitress for Transcotia Restaurant in Brooklyn for a number a years. She was an active member in the Liverpool United Baptist Church, where she served faithfully as a member of WWT  and beloved Sunday schooland Junior Church leader.

She is survived by her husband Donald, sons Timothy (Norma) of Sandy Cove and Anthony (Carla) of Liverpool. 2 grandsons Christopher (Julie), Jamie and two granddaughters Tracie (Brad) and Amanda. Foster daughter  Pat McIntyre of Montreal.  Sisters Yvonne (Norm) Miller of Dartmouth, Ferne (Lester) Whynot of Milton and Sheila Clattenburg of Liverpool. Brothers David (Jan) Clattenburg of Liverpool and Ronald (Winnifred) Clattenburg of Brooklyn.

Besides her parents and step father, she was predeceased by two infant brothers Robert Jr. and Earl, her sister Jenneine (Connolly) Corkum and her brother Linwood Connolly.

Visitation will be Tuesday, May 18th, 2010 from 7 until 9 p.m. in Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 19th, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in Liverpool United Baptist Church. Reverend Steven Hopper officiating. Burial will be in Liverpool United Baptist Cemetery. ST. CLAIR-GOLDING, Janet Louise, 74, of Labelle, passed away peacefully at home, May 11, 2010.

Born in Lunenburg, she was the daughter of the late Warren and Audrey (Baker) Crouse.

Janet taught swimming and figure skating, she also enjoyed gardening and wildlife and was a life long member of various wildlife organizations.

Janet is survived by her husband Anthony Louis, sons Derek (Michelle) of St. John’s, NFLD and Kerry (Suzanne) of San Diego, Calf., grandson Derek and brother Russell (Diane) of Lunenburg.

Rawding, Elizabeth “Betty” Marguerite, 90, of Liverpool, Queens County, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 6th, 2010, in The Queens General Hospital, Liverpool, surrounded by her family.

Born March 3rd, 1920 in Melvern Square, Annapolis County, she was the daughter of the late William and Nellie (Morse) Spurr.

Following high school Betty graduated from Nova Scotia Teachers College and taught home economics in Shelburne. Betty and Merrill were married in 1943 and resided in Liverpool from that date. Betty was an avid golfer and curler and served as President of the local clubs and both provincial organizations. She was the founding President of the Atlantic Seniors Ladies Golf Association. She was a member of Zion United Church, a life-long member of the Liberal Party and a member of a wide variety of community organizations where she served in various capacities. 

She is survived by her sons Tom (Mardi), of Chester, John (Susan), of New Glasgow, Peter (Cindy), of Antigonish; daughter-in-law Joan (George), of Bridgewater; grandchildren Kimberlea, Matthew (Cassandra), Sara Jane (Michael), Amanda, Bill, Mike, Katie and great-grandchild Cameron.

She was predeceased by her husband Merrill; son David; grandson Jeffrey and brothers Cameron and Lawrence.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers Funeral Home, Liverpool. A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, May 9th, 2010, at 2:30 p.m., from Zion United Church, Liverpool. Reverend Joanne McFadden officiating. Burial will be in the Zion United Church Cemetery, College Street, Liverpool at a later date. Family flowers only.
